How to Live Seasonally in Spring? Connecting with Nature's Rhythms

Embracing the Energy of Spring: Connecting with Nature's Rhythms

In our modern world, it's too easy to lose sight of the rhythms of the natural world. In the rush between work, school drop-offs/pick-ups, and food shopping (aka my everyday routine), we might notice that it's raining again, but we might not recognise how much the changes and shifts in seasons influence our wellbeing. I know firsthand how easily it is to get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and go for months or even years ignoring natural rhythms and the importance of living seasonally.

In theory, we all live seasonally - in Summer our husband gets a new barbecue and for Christmas, we decorate the tree, right? But our connection with the seasons and their influence on our energy quality and levels goes much deeper. Although it might be hard to believe in it while sitting in our modern homes, scrolling our mobile phones and tablets, we are a part of the natural world, one of the many links on the chain that creates the ecosystem and thus we are influenced by it the same way the trees in the forest and animals are.

As Spring arrived with its warmth, vitality, and renewed energy, it invites us to pause and look closely at our connection to the natural world. On The Wheel of The Year, Spring represents dawn - a new day, a new beginning, a fresh start. This is the time to feel excited and begin new projects - a perfect time to explore your connection with the seasons and perhaps implement some changes in your everyday life.

The Influence of Spring on Mind, Body, and Spirit

Spring's arrival marks a time of rejuvenation and growth, touching every aspect of our being. The longer days and warmer weather spark optimism and energy, encouraging us to shed the heaviness of Winter and welcome a fresh burst of inspiration and motivation. Spring energy makes us feel renewed and ready to take on new challenges.

Physically, during this time, our bodies crave movement and nourishment. We feel the urge to go outdoors, whether it's hiking or a leisurely stroll in the country garden; our connection with nature is calling us on the most basic, intuitive level. The warmer weather also encourages us to eat lighter and fresher meals, opting for leafy green salads, juicy fruits, and seasonal vegetables. These foods replenish our energy levels and make us feel revitalised after the heavier comfort foods of Autumn and Winter.

Embracing the seasonal living in Spring

On the most basic, intuitive level, we feel drawn to nature during this time of the year because after the period of dormancy and rest in Winter, it nourishes us in ways that nothing else can. The fresh air fills our lungs, invigorating us with each breath. The warm sun on our skin lifts our spirits, making us feel good. The sight of colourful flowers and lush greenery soothes our souls and reminds us of the beauty that surrounds us.

When we follow this call of nature, we're not just indulging in a leisurely activity; we're prioritising our physical and mental health. Studies have shown that spending time outdoors can reduce stress, boost mood, and improve overall well-being. It's the most natural, time-old way of restoring balance and harmony to our lives.

The energy of Spring and what it means for us?

Energetically, Spring is the time to begin new projects and work on our dreams and goals. Nature is very much active, producing new growth daily, and this is the best example for us that it is time to take action. The energy of Spring brings creativity, focus, productivity, so aligning our actions with this energy is simply a smart thing to do. This doesn't mean that we need to push ourselves to achieve extraordinary things, but rather encourages us to take the first step on the journey that will eventually lead us to the dream destination.

How to embrace Spring season in everyday life?

Here is a list of simple, intuitive ways to connect with the current season and embrace seasonal living:

  • Spend mindful time outdoors.
  • Declutter and clean your home.
  • Decorate your home with symbols of Spring (check out my Ostara blog post for examples).
  • Bring fresh, seasonal flowers home.
  • Burn one of YR studio's Spring candles to shift the energy towards the new season.
  • Tend to your garden and/or houseplants. Plant herbs and colourful flowers (you can also do it on the kitchen windowsill!).
  • Cook using seasonal vegetables and fruits
Living seasonally is something our generation writes books (and blog posts;) about, yet for our ancestors, it was the most natural way to be, a connection that was felt rather than learned. Although I'm perfectly happy living in the XXI century, grateful for modern medicine and relative safety, it doesn't mean that we can't learn and embrace some of the old ways, cultivating our connection with the seasons and living closer to nature. In my opinion, it's getting the best of both worlds :)

Adriana
